About Us
Welcome to FilAm Connection Shop.
"...we see our work as pasalubong to your family..."
We’re Janelle Quiambao and David Banales, a husband-and-wife team born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Janelle is a second-generation Filipino American, and David is a fourth-generation Mexican American. Together, we share a love for culture, community, and the stories that shape who we are.
Our Story
From 2018–2020, while our kids were still young, we had the privilege of living in the Philippines. Those years opened our eyes to the beauty of Filipino culture before it blends into the melting pot of America. We saw the artistry, traditions, and resilience that people carry with them when they leave home.
Some leave out of necessity, others out of opportunity, but every immigrant carries the weight of leaving home behind. For their children who grow up here in the U.S., identity becomes layered. Many Filipino Americans feel caught between two worlds, not fully American, not fully Filipino. Yet when FilAms choose to reconnect, they often do it in ways that are reimagined for their lives here: chefs reinvent traditional flavors, artists express culture through new mediums, families celebrate with modern twists on old traditions.
For us, that reconnection came through the artisans we met in the Philippines, the makers keeping heritage alive. We were especially drawn to two timeless symbols of Filipino artistry: the parol of Pampanga, handcrafted from Capiz shells, and the barong tagalog, reimagined in playful, elegant form for our pets.
But this is just the start. Our vision is a growing, curated collection from artisans across the Philippines, each piece a bridge between heritage and modern life, each product a way to carry culture forward.

Our Mission
This is the mission of FilAm Connection Shop:
"To connect Filipinos in America with artisans in the Philippines who are reinventing and carrying forward the Filipino story."
By bringing Sinagtala Parol and Fil Dog to the U.S., we see our work as pasalubong, a gift we carry from our time living in the Philippines, shared with you and your family.
Maraming salamat for being part of this journey!
